About Windhorse Publications
We at Windhorse Publication are a team of twelve practising
Buddhists, four women and eight men. We follow the Buddha's
teaching on ethical livelihood. Our books are very important
to us; we see them as containing the principles by which we
live our lives.
The Windhorse symbolizes the energy of the enlightened mind
carrying the Three Jewels -the Buddha, the Dharma (the Buddha's
teaching), and the Sangha (the community of his Enlightened
followers) - to all sentient beings.
Buddhism is one of the fastest-growing spiritual traditions
in the Western world. Throughout its 2,500-year history, it
has continually adapted to the mode of expression to suite
whatever culture it has encountered.
Windhorse Publications aims to continue this tradition as
Buddhism comes to the West. Today's Westerners are heirs to
the entire Buddhist tradition, free to draw instruction and
inspiration from all the many schools and branches. Windhorse
publishes works by authors who not only understand the Buddhist
tradition but are also familiar with Western culture and the
Western mind.
We edit, typeset, and distribute all our book in-house, but
we use external printers. We aim to give customers the best
possible service, by producing excellent books and ensuring
that we get your order to you with as little fuss as possible.
Windhorse Publications is a not for profit charity, connected
with the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order. The charity
aims through its books to spread the Buddha's teachings worldwide.
We also aim to use any surplus in our funds to provide books
for Indian Buddhists at prices they can afford and in their
own languages. Many of these Indian Buddhists have converted
to Buddhism to escape discrimination based on the caste system.
We have helped distribute books in Eastern Europe by giving
away translation rights to local publishers.
